No One Cares What YOU Do at the Gym!
When I first started working out at the gym, I would rush nervously past the weight room, straight upstairs to the “moms” workout room where kids could play legos and watch cartoons. Mind you I didn’t have any kids with me as they were with our nanny 😂 I just felt like that’s where I belonged.
For a good 3 months after I started the FASTer Way, this was my routine. I would open up the home version of the workouts (the moms room only had dumbbells and of course tons of cardio machines) on my phone and watch the demo video of each move because what the heck is a tricep kickback?? I had no idea and that’s okay! I was learning.
Well, guess what else happened? I got stronger. Not just physically, but mentally. My confidence grew. The weights were no longer heavy enough for me in that little room (I guess moms are only supposed to life 25lbs 😜) and I also realized that one of the reasons I enjoy going to the gym is to get AWAY from children! So I ventured downstairs, picked a corner and did my workouts there. Then I tried a few machines and asked for help when I needed it from a staff member or even just the person standing next to me. When @cdrmams came home from deployment that year he encouraged me to do more. We did it together. I conquered the leg press that feels like it will fall on you. Box jumps. Smith machine. And then this platform that makes you feel like you’re on stage. It felt amazing to let go of those insecurities! Honestly you guys, no one cares what you’re doing at the gym!
Anyway, the point of this #gymlife autobiography is that it was baby steps!! I had never done any exercise except running and swimming and a little yoga my entire adult life. But I had to start somewhere, right?
I love working with my clients on their goals whether they are training for a marathon or haven’t exercised in years! Where are YOU in your fitness journey?
